A resource for companion parrots in need, and those who love them.

Connecticut Parrot Rescue was founded in July 2015 and as of September 2016, became an official 501c3 non-profit public charity. We are completely run by Connecticut-based volunteer foster homes, who aid the transition and rehabilitation processes of companion parrots into loving adoptive homes. Please browse our website to learn more about our organization, our exciting partnerships, how you can get involved and of course... our amazing adoptable parrots! We strive to give our parrots the best possible care, and then integrate them into suitable and loving homes.

Bird Of The Month:

Sinbad

Sinbad was originally adopted around 1986 by a family who gave him to their daughter who was in her 20’s at the time. She and Sinbad got along great with each other. She said that he would shoulder sit and she would be able to take him places with her. Sinbad lived with her for about 6 years

Sinbad moved back in with his owner’s parents after not being compatible with his owner’s boyfriend (now husband).

Sinbad then lived with her the parents for over 25 years until their passing. He enjoyed Jeopardy and singing the Jeopardy song, although I’ve never heard him sing it. He did leave his cage and would wonder freely.

He has lived with us for about 5 years. He will get out of his cage and wander freely.

He is sweet yet a bit skittish. It has taken him a long time to settle in and he still does not want to be handled. You can sometimes pet his talons or kiss his beak. He enjoys being outside and he enjoys a light shower with the hose on a hot day.

He does not have a big vocabulary but he does say “Just do it” or “Do it”, “Hello”, and other vocalizations that sound like “Get to work” and somethings that I can’t make out.

He laughs at appropriate times, he barks, and whistles in response to someone whistling and makes a crunching sound when we are eating something crunchy like a chip and he wants some.

He likes to be in the middle of things and watching everyone. He prefers when people sit close to him.

He can be very quiet for very long stretches.

And he can be very chatty at times. Once he does get started he will go on for a long time. And that will include very loud squawking, like fire alarm squawking.

Things that set him off:

Certain people get him going for sure.

Sometimes it’s when there is a lot of commotion in the house.

Sometimes it’s because he feels like he’s too far away from what’s happening

Sometimes it is in response to something, a hawk he sees outside the window.

Sometimes it’s early morning which may be in response to something in the yard or his way of saying wake up.

Physically:

He came to us with a broken or dislocated wing. The vet has recommended leaving it alone seeing it doesn’t seem to bother him.

Meet Our Birds

Jekyll & Phoenix

Jekyll (GCC) and Phoenix (BC Conure) are a bonded pair. They are very sweet and curious. They know how to step up and like attention! Jekyll is a bit friendlier of the two and is happy to fly on your arm, head and come to people while Phoenix is a bit more reserved and likes to get to know you before he is comfortable with you. They can be noisy in the mornings. I have found that usually that is just them calling to be let out of their cage. Once they are out, they are much quieter and enjoy flight time. They would do well in a home where they can be out of their cage for a good portion of the day.

Adoption Fee $350

Baldy

Baldy is a vivacious, beautiful bird who is full of personality. He is 14 years old, and as a caique, has a penchant for comic mischief. He is a sweet bird to people he loves, but be aware that he can have inexplicable adverse reactions to some people (usually men).

Baldy will do best with a female who has bird experience -- he would likely be ill-suited for a novice unless that person is unusually dedicated to care. Please know that Baldy is complex and can be difficult -- he will scream if he is bored or needs attention, he's terrified of random household objects (like balloons), and will bite people he does not like.

Buckle

Buckle is estimated to be in his 50s and is hand tame. He loves to hang outside of his cage and prefers a quieter house. Prefers women and allows scritches and will take treats from your hand.

Adoption Fee $400

Tequila

Tequila is a 16 year old Senegal Parrot who is full of energy! She loves to dance to music and do things around the house with her person. She bonds strongly with one person and loves to have attention on her.

Moshka & Ryzhyk

Moshka, the green cheeked conure, loves to be out of the cage and with his human flock. He lived in the same house for all 6+ years prior to being surrendered to the rescue. His previous owner believes he is a boy, but is not certain. Moshka is curious and spunky and loves to dance. He can take a little bit of patience as he learns to trust his caregivers, but once you are in, he will let you scratch and cuddle him. He is a fun bird, full of personality. He likes to be out of his cage so anyone interested should have the ability to let him freely move out of his enclosure for at least part of the day.

Ryzhyk, the sun conure, is much more reserved. She likes to be in the room but prefers to watch at more of a distance. She will sit on a shoulder but is cautious when stepping up onto a hand. She, too, takes some time to warm up but given time, starts to interact more. She also enjoys time out of her cage where she can move around her environment. Where Moshka is curious and playful, Ryzhyk is gentle and cautious.

Adoption Fee $350, Comes with cage

Apollo & Zeus

Meet Zeus (green) and Apollo (blue), a bonded pair of males, these two are partners in crime and they love to watch the antics of their foster siblings from their window gym, and they love out of cage time and can be out all day! They are embracing nutriberry treats, pasta and love millet. They step up and they are warming up to play time with their foster brother and sister. However, they let their foster mom know when it is time to go back to their own cage! Apollo is a little more guarded when he is meeting new bird friends at first. These two are an excellent addition to any home and they “go with the flow.” They come with a cage, perches, toys, carrier and gym.
Apollo can be a grumpy little man and stubborn if playtime is interrupted before he is ready and has bitten his foster mom. He is clear with his boundaries and although they quickly adjust to new surroundings, patience is a must!
